Why 1 February and which day it falls on
In recent years, the Budget has been presented on 1 February, and this has replaced the older practice of presenting it at the end of February. The change was made so that the money plans for the year are in place before the new financial year begins on 1 April.
The coming Budget is expected on a Monday, as 1 February 2027 falls on that day. Many investors are expecting markets to trade as on any normal weekday. Exchanges have held special sessions on Budget days in the past, and individuals are discussing whether the timings will be changed this time as well.

Speech, Finance Bill and the key dates
The Budget speech is delivered by the Finance Minister in Parliament, usually around 11 am. Viewers are expecting to watch it live on Doordarshan and Sansad TV, and the Finance Ministry and PIB pages online will also carry it.
The Finance Bill is the legislation that transforms the tax proposals spoken about into law, and Parliament must approve it before the proposals come into effect.
